I'm a freelance journalist, arts reviewer and copywriter based in Birmingham, West Midlands with coverage nationwide.

I am a regular contributor for culture and lifestyle magazine Fused, distributed regionally, and a theatre

critic for The Reviews Hub, a national online operation. I have a cultural tourism column over at

Birmingham Favourites, celebrating my native city, and I currently write city guides for culture site

WOW247.

I specialise in the arts and pop culture, human interest, food and lifestyle features and am particularly

interested in theatre, literature and family.

A stint at the local rag in 1998 mostly taught me that press photographers have messy cars. And

that Greggs do some bloody good doughnuts. But that aside, the experience got me hooked on

journalism. Whilst studying for a degree in English I freelanced as a features writer, working with

Virgin Student, BBC Birmingham, local music magazines and Channel 4's IdeasFactory (now

4Talent), who commissioned a series of pieces exploring the Midlands' creative industries. Aptly, I

later joined one of the companies I profiled - Warwickshire-based arts educationalists, Hybrid Arts -

raising the arts profile of the region in a hands-on way. I remained on this side of the fence for a

decade, later co-directing the charitable enterprise.

I draw upon this experience in my writing, taking on journalism commissions and copywriting

projects alongside a spot of creative non-fiction, including memoir and reflections on the writing

process.
